Important Notes about TOS

The following comments were send to me by Davit. I thought they were very important for TOS tradeers:

Hi Juan,

Once you wrote: “ The Think or Swim platform gives you very good risk graphs, the problem is that once you make an adjustment to your trade, the picture does not take into consideration all portions of the trade, past and present.”

I think you will like this:

1. Go to ACC’T STMT Tab
2. Open Trade History
3. Find all trades related to current position. You might need to enter stock symbol into the box to filter out other trades, and change dates viewed.
4. Right click on initial/opening trade and choose Analyze Duplicate Trade. It will create simulated trade with locked entry price right under real/existing(black) legs in ANALYZE Tab.
5. Uncheck all real /existing legs
6. Go back to ACC’T STMT Tab and do Analyze Duplicate Trade for each adjustment trade for this position.
7. At the end you will see the magic J real time risk graph for current position.

There is a small issue there. When you detaching ANALIZE tab simulated trades are not there.

So I am going to ask TOS software guys to think ( or swim J ) about making something like savable portfolios to store simulated trades.

Also to add some navigation features to risk graph like zoom in/out. But in ideal I want them to rotate risk graph and add stock chart, they too close to make streaming Risk Graph II. And of course I will ask them about IV/SV graph.

By the way, I tried rollover/adjustment risk graph in TOS platform, it works perfectly.(Opposite trade with $0 entry)

Recently I asked software guys about “real-time charting for multi-leg option position”

The answer was: “You’ll be happy to learn that we are indeed going to offer real-time spread charting on one of our Charting releases this summer. …. we are working on a very slick interface that displays bid/ask as well.”

I posted risk graph portion of this e-mail in your blog comments.

Best Regards

Dave

A Second e-mail refers to a conversation Davit had with the TOS people. Here it is:

Couple things about ANALYZE Tab.

After detaching ANALIZE Tab all simulated trades are disappearing. So you have to start over. In this regard it would be very nice to have some savable portfolio for simulated trades. The importance to have it is following – Risk Profile for current position does not take into consideration all portions of the trade, but using simulated trades you could mimic all actions and have real picture of the trade.

Another things which could be done with Risk Profile is to rotate it by 90 degrees. X – Profit Y- Stock price ,put on the left side stock chart, with same Y range, have those price slices running horizontally throughout both graphs, and have some navigation features, like zoom in/out, stock price range.

IV and HV charts are very nice. But for IV chart it is missing a choice of IV for expiration ranges, likes 30days, 60 days, >90days .

And one more thing, and you almost have it, it is IV/SV chart.

TOS answer:

Thanks Davit for the email and the great feedback. BTW, what you may think is an in depth wish list is really just what our developers want to read. They like customer driven detailed software requirements and some of the trading logic to support it as well.

I have already passed your email over to Tom Preston and to our developers - we have some new code that we expect to start writing for our Analysis page in August so your timing is great.

So they want " an in depth wish list " . Lets give them. I think the best place to do that is you blog. Ask your readers to contribute ideas regarding TOS platform wish list.

TOS is to close to create streaming Platinum. We need just push a little in right direction.

Thanks,

Dave

Hi
Great work! So I don't need to subscribe Platinum anymore, it is too expensive.

About Platinum - Yes, it is expensive, but it is also a good value. I am not ready to let it go, but then I have until August to decide.

I can share trades with other users, although I don't hear much as far as comments are concernd.

Also, if you trade successfully, perhaps you can afford it. If you don't it just adds to your cost and cuts into your profits.

I would simply look at what it does contribute to your bottom line and if the expense is justified.

It seems to me that the TOS platform is constantly evolving, so you may think that the functionalities of Platinum may eventually make it to the TOS platform..... We'll see.

yeah..agree ..
infact i did attend their course and have the same thought as you took their course. i stop it and try my own way. my account is too small to compare yours and i don't need that software to do my trade. e.g. those short term trade does not require platinum since it is simply buy a call or put or a spread.
regards,
p.s. is it possible to find a PCCRC with + theta? if so can i say with +Delta +vega and +theta is the perfect condition for PCCRC? if so should we just concentrate on finding those trade?
